Distances
Villa Oppidum is perfectly located in Vallauris, a small town located between Cannes (distance 8 km) and Antibes (distance 6 km). Pablo Picasso was the most famous resident of this charm city . The nearest port and the surrounding beaches are Golf Juan (5 km), abundant in local restaurants, where you can taste exquisite seafood and many other delicacies of French cuisine at any time of the year and Juan-Les-Pins. The International Nice – Côte d’Azur Airport is at 20 km distance.
Juan-Les-Pins
The rise of the resort really started after the First World War with the arrival of the Americans. From a winter resort, it became a seaside resort in the 20’s: promotor Edouard Baudoin bought the Casino, wonderfully renovated it and opened it in spring 1924, in the presence of the intellectual and artistic elite of the time. Among the guests was Franck Jay Gould, a rich American heir, on holiday in the region. He fell in love with Juan-les-Pins, and decided to invest in the resort. It was the birth of Le Provençal. At the same time, Gerald and Sara Murphy, American patrons, decided to spend the summer in Cap d’Antibes and in tune with their lifestyle surrounded themselves with the famous artists and writers of the time (Pablo Picasso, Fernand Léger, F. Scott Fitzgerald, Ernest Hemingway, John Dos Passos…).
In the 1930s, the Antibes region and, more specifically. Juan-Les-Pins was regarded as a bolthole for the international Jet-Set. Casinos, Nightclubs and white beaches stretching as far as you could see.
Some 80 years later, and whilst the former lodgings of the Duke and Duchess of Windsor, the castle of La Croë, has like many Regency buildings, fallen to the Oligarchs, Juan-Les-Pins has retained much of its charm.
The Cap D’Antibes
The Cap d’Antibes is a peninsula of the town of Antibes, located between Cannes and Nice, in the Alpes Maritimes department in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region. It attracts every year many tourists who come to enjoy this holiday resort and hike.
Facing the Mediterranean Sea, Cap Antibes looks wild. Cliffs and creeks border the peninsula of Cap d’Antibes. While strolling in the picturesque alleys of Cap d’Antibes, you will appreciate its charm with its pines and beautiful villas such as the villa Sous Le Vent, the castle of La Croë…
Property of the “Conservatoire du littoral”, classified as a Natura 2000 area, the Cap d’Antibes is home to various plant and animal species. This exceptional site really developed in the XIXth century. Well-to-do tourists built superb villas there. Since then, the Cap d’Antibes has become world-renowned and every year it attracts many visitors as well as personalities from the cinema and the arts.
Cannes
Nestled in an enchanting corner of the Golfe de la Napoule Bay, Cannes is blessed with a balmy Mediterranean climate. The weather is mild year-round and perfect for sunbathing by the beach from May through October. Leafy palm trees grace the streets of Cannes, and subtropical flowers flourish throughout the city, giving visitors the impression of being in paradise.
The prestigious Film Festival of Cannes has been an important event since it began in 1946. Drawing famous movie stars from around the world, this annual red-carpet gala has earned an international reputation for promoting the art of filmmaking.
The Boulevard de la Croisette, one of the most fashionable streets on the French Riviera, is the centre of tourist activity in Cannes. It is lined with opulent villas, upscale boutiques and lavish Belle Epoque hotels, such as the legendary Carlton Cannes, a masterpiece of Art Nouveau architecture designed by Charles Dalmas, the Hotel Martinez, and the Majestic.
