Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat

Perfectly positioned between Nice International Airport and Monaco sits the idyllic forested peninsula of Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat. Historically frequented by the world’s elite and the greats of stage and screen, this charming and picturesque oasis is home to some of the worlds most awe-inspiring real estate including Villa Leopolda, Villa Ephrussi and Villa L’Empyrée.

Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat is flanked by the picturesque Riviera towns of Villefranche-sur-Mer and Beaulieu-sur-Mer and is within close proximity to the popular hilltop town of Eze and the Principality of Monaco. The neighbouring areas provide comprehensive amenities in addition to those on the peninsula itself. These include a 560 berth marina, the legendary Grand Hotel du Cap Ferrat and secluded beaches.

The history of Saint Jean Cap Ferrat shows that the town was known to the ancient Greeks as Anao, the site of present days Cap Ferrat was first settled by Celto-Ligurian tribes, then by the Lombards at the end of the 6th century. Sant Ospizio, a hermit friar, is said to have inhabited a tower on the Eastern part of the peninsula.

At the beginning of the 20th century, King Leopold II of Belgium owned an estate on Cap Ferrat and built several houses and an artificial lake. The main residence is the Villa des Cèdres, which has been owned by Marnier-Lapostolle (the founder of Grand Marnier) since 1924 and is now in part a botanical garden called the Jardin Botanique des Cèdres.
