Chateau St Martin & Spa

Erected on the ruins of a Templar fortress dating back to the 12th century, Château Saint-Martin & Spa is nestled at the foot of the famous Baou des Blancs. It occupies a property of more than 14 hectares and offers breathtaking views of the azure waters of the Mediterranean as well as dazzling panoramas of the Southern Alps.

Opened in 1958, this exceptional house retains the old Commandery, the huge drawbridge gate and some ruined walls. The park that surrounds it has been landscaped by the famous garden designer, Jean Mus.

Pool, paths and terraces in terraces were created around multi-centenary olive trees. Perfectly integrated into its environment, the building has been restored by the famous contemporary architect Luc Svetchine.

Inside, the decoration, thought by the owner Maja Oetker, is in keeping with the spirit of the castle. Louis XV or Louis XVI chests of drawers, Aubusson and Gobelins tapestries, 18th century clocks, Persian and Turkish rugs: each piece of the castle is a journey back in time.

In the park, 6 private villas offer more privacy. Sumptuous, they are decorated like the rooms of the castle, Louis XV and Louis XVI furniture, Pierre Frey fabrics inspired by classical styles. Clinging to the Baou, on private and guarded land, they are the favorite haven of the stars.

Château Saint-Martin & Spa also offers a spa where Sisley treatments are cared for, in dugouts on the cliffs that open onto the horizon.

The 2 restaurants are led by the talented Chef Jean-Luc Lefrançois. In summer, we have lunch at the Olive Grove, in the shade of the park’s century-old olive trees and in the midst of delicious scents of roses. And in the evening, we enjoy the comfort of St. Martin where Jean-Luc Lefrançois re-adapts the great classics of French cuisine.

La Reserve lived through the Belle Epoque, the Great War, the Roaring Twenties…At the end of the Second World War, the new owners built a large Florentine style villa adjoining the restaurant’s veranda.

La Reserve’s celebrity guest book from this period and the following years is a compendium of illustrious guests from the fifties and the age of glamour such as Rita Hayworth, Clark Gable, Paul Newman, Charlie Chaplin, or Edith Piaf, Jean Marais, Frank Sinatra…

Hotel du Cap-Eden-Roc

Hotel du Cap-Eden-Roc’s 117 guestrooms are in three different locations: the main Hotel du Cap, the original Villa Soleil which exudes historic glamour, the Eden-Roc Pavilion with the sea right below, and Les Deux Fontaines Residence, the more private part of the hotel with its particularly fresh and light interiors.

Every hotel has a story to tell, but few tales are as impressive as that of Hôtel du Cap-Eden-Roc. Built in 1869 and named Villa Soleil, it was intended as a haven for writers starved of inspiration. By 1887 it had adopted its current name and was set to become the hotel that turned the French Riviera into a summertime destination. Lost Generation writers Ernest Hemingway and F Scott Fitzgerald were regulars –the latter even immortalised Eden-Roc as Hôtel des Etrangers in his novel Tender Is The Night.

The Kennedys holidayed here, Pablo Picasso designed the menus and Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton honeymooned here (the first time). It’s got popular culture oozing out of the walls. Now, with 117 guest rooms – some based in the original Villa Soleil building – it’s known for the best restaurants, rooms and parties on the Côte d’Azur and is an absolute must for anybody looking for a slice of classic French Riviera charm.
